Three-peat for Goodwin rink

Comox Valley quartet wins sixth North Island Club Challenge

Deb Goodwin, Lonnie Schopp, Kim Jonsson and Lori Ross, the Comox Valley Curling Club Ladies Champions, competed this weekend in the ladies division of the North Island Club Challenge. The event was hosted by the local curling centre with great support from the fans to cheer them on.

The final game was against the Campbell River team of Nicole McCurrie, Dodie Braithwaite, Sharon McCurrie and Louise Ramm. The game started with Goodwin taking three in the first end and the battle was close until a couple of three-enders late in the game sealed the deal for the win.

This is the sixth time the Goodwin team has won the event and today capped off a “three-peat.”

The local men’s team skipped by Mike Imrie was defeated Sunday morning and the final saw the team of Jim Schultz from Powell River defeat the Geoff Griffiths team from Parksville. They will head off to the Richmond Curling Centre April 17-21 and the best of luck is extended to both teams as they represent the North Island at the 14th annual Pacific International Cup.
