The Kelowna Owls junior girls basketball squad went 3-for-3 over the weekend during Super Saturday Series at Fraser Heights Secondary and Lord Tweedsmuir Secondary.
In their opener, the Owls came from behind to beat Seycove Secondary 45-43.
Madison Dickie hit a key shot and produced some big stops defensively to change the momentum on the game in our favour in the fourth quarter, while Taya Hanson sealed the game with two clutch free throws.
In Game 2, KSS edged Claremont 40-39. Down by two with 20 seconds to go, Chelsea Espenberg came up with a big three to put the Owls ahead by one. Scoring was well distributed with Rene Watson, Abby Cullen, Taya Hanson and Callie Miller chipping in six plus points apiece.
The final game, the Owls downed Brookswood 39-26. Down to nine players, Gabby Craddock, Emily Gotte, Sydney Burke and Juliet Watts provided a big lift off the bench contributing on both ends of the court.
“I’m very happy with where our team is at this point in the season. After taking the holiday break off for some much needed time with family and friends, the girls responded well under pressure against strong competition,” said Owls coach Kim Whelpton. “They keep finding a way to win in big moments and more importantly continue to grow as a team and individuals.”
