The midget A Cowichan Valley Thunder closed out the 2016 box lacrosse season last week with a come-from-behind win over the Peninsula Warriors, followed by a loss to the Juan de Fuca Whalers.
Brody Black and Hunter Hieta each scored hat tricks and added one assist apiece, and Jack Sanderson also found the back of the net in a 7-3 win over Peninsula at Panorama Rec Centre on Sunday, June 12.
Sam Baxter had two helpers in the game, and Nathan Clark, Rhys Mazurenko and Miles Brooks also recorded assists.
The Thunder got off to a slow start with just one goal in each of the first two periods, then exploded for five in the third. Goalie Colin Jeffrey allowed three goals over the first two frames, then shut the door.
The season came to a halt on Wednesday with an 8-1 loss to JDF. Mazurenko scored the lone goal, assisted by Black.
“While it was a lopsided win, this game was one where both teams had fun and could be heard joking back and forth on the floor,” parent Paula Harris said.
