Thunder golden at Delta tourney

The Langley Thunder used spectacular special teams to turn a close game into a five-goal victory in the gold medal match at a peewee lacrosse tournament in Delta.

The Thunder scored three times with the man advantage and once more short-handed in the final 20 minutes to defeat the Coquitlam Adanacs 11-6.

Cal Slade was named player of the game.

Langley won all five games at the weekend tournament.

In the opener, the Thunder scored five unanswered goals in the third to overtake the Port Coquitlam Saints 7-3.

Player of the game Connor Watson had two goals and two assists, while Josh Green and Justin Gauthier had one goal and one assist apiece.

The second game was no contest as the Thunder overpowered the Mission Sasquatch 10-0. Hugh Brown was player of the game with two goals and an assist.

Spencer Mitchell spearheaded another strong defensive effort in the third game, a 6-2 win over the Coquitlam Adanacs.

Caleb Pearson (two goals, two assists) was player of the game.

And in the team’s final qualifying game, Dawson Calfa set up three goals to win player of the game honours, while Cole Radke set up two others in a 7-1 win over the Port Coquitlam Saints.
