Thunder take Island bantam B championship

Next stop for Cowichan: provincials at Peninsula

The Cowichan Thunder clinched the Island playoff title in bantam B box lacrosse with a decisive 8-2 victory over Nanaimo at Kerry Park Arena last Saturday.

The only team to defeat Nanaimo in league play this season, the Thunder got three goals in the first period last Saturday, two in the second, and another three in the third.

Cowichan captain Adam Klassen scored two goals and added a pair of assists, and Matteo Thibault also found the back of the net twice. Cooper Douglas and Logan Olson each recorded a goal and one assist, Blaise Bennefield and Tayden Ross had single goals, and Seth O’Brien, Brett Beauchamp and Owen Papineau had one helper apiece. Jayden Strom earned the win in the Cowichan net.

Prior to last weekend, the Thunder had already qualified for the provincial championships, which will be hosted by Peninsula on July 18-21.
