The North Enderby Timber stopped the Revelstoke Stallions 4-2 in North Okanagan Soccer League play Wednesday night in Salmon Arm.
NET struck first in the 10th minute. After a foul outside the 18, an alert Graham Ross played a quick free kick to Brent Poulsen, who outran a defender to the ball, deked the keeper and played the ball across goal to Brodie Couch for a tap in from three yards.
The Timber (5-1) maintained pressure and connected at 20 minutes when Ross – named the Weststone Man of the Match – played a 40-yard over-the-top through ball to Jesse Knight, who made the Revelstoke keeper look silly and finished it to the yawning cage.
Revelstoke responded in the 40th minute after some miscommunication between the backline and keeper Victor Gouchee. Revelstoke then equalized on their second shot of the game after some more confusion at the Timber back end leading to a breakaway from the 18.
The Timber collected themselves to go ahead with the eventual winner. Finlay McPhie beat a couple of defenders and then took a hard challenge but managed to send Poulsen in for a breakaway. Poulsen calmly beat the charging keeper.
The Timber added some insurance on a two-for-one penalty kick in the 80th minute with Couch nailing the crossbar but the Revy keeper getting called with encroachment. Next-in-line Mike Bennett buried the second PK.
Peters Tirecraft/Concept Physio battled host Salmon Arm Courvas to a scoreless draw for their first-ever points against the Salmon Arm side.
“We played a very good defensive game against them but had the same number of scoring chances as they did,” said Tirecraft veteran Rob Spraggs. “A fantastic effort by the guys. Peter (Kaz) Kouzouloglou had a great game in net with Clark Richardson and Gavin Brewster providing stellar play in the middle of the back line in front of him.”
Courvas are 3-2-0, Tirecraft 2-3-1.
