The Nanaimo Timbermen are tweaking the team in a lot of ways, including in the crease.
The senior A lacrosse team traded away No. 1 goalie Zak Boychuk last week to the Burnaby Lakers in exchange for two 2018 draft picks.
Boychuk played for the T-men the last five seasons and was the No. 1 goalie the last three years. Last year he posted a 3-8 record and was fifth in the league in save percentage (0.799).
“The emergence of hometown netminder Pete Dubenski last season made this deal possible, as the 2015 first-round pick looks ready to take over the No. 1 role,” noted a club press release.
The Timbermen have had a busy off-season, previously acquiring forwards Casey Jackson, Colton Clark and Corey Shires and trading away former first-round pick Eli McLaughlin.
The Timbermen have three selections in the top-10 at the 2016 Western Lacrosse Association Draft, to be held Feb. 10 in Vancouver.
The WLA season gets underway on May 20.
