Vernon Kal Tire salvaged a 1-1 draw with the Kelowna Kickers in Okanagan Oldtimers 50+ Soccer League action Thursday night at Rutland Sports Fields.
Striker Matt McGraw gave the Kickers the lead in the 17th minute when he took a feed from Reed Freeman and beat keeper Gordie Campbell
with a hard 20-yard blast.
The Tiremen (5-6-2) equalized late in the first half when right winger Ted Sheehan unleashed a 30-yard drive after a feed by Dave Dawson. Kickers’ keeper Marty Bunce and defender Willie Babcock collided and the ball bounced free and over the line.
The Kickers struck a couple of crossbars in the second half and were awarded a penalty shot with nine minutes remaining after defender Sid Fulljames used a slide tackle near the goal line.
Campbell went up high and tipped veteran Fred Molzahn’s shot over the bar.
Harry Adam, Grant Badgero and Rob Parkin were solid on the Kal Tire back line.
In other action, Tony Munoz scored twice, including once on a penalty shot, as Penticton United shut down the Vernon Stars 4-0 at Constable Neil Bruce Middle School in West Kelowna.
Striker/midfielder Al Bensmiller and defender Bob Oldfield shared the Red Robin Man of the Match for the Stars, who dipped to 8-4-1.
