TOFC claim victory over top squad

A single goal was all TOFC needed to secure three vital points against the leagues top ranked side in the U13 EA Sports BC Soccer Premier League.

In dramatic fashion, with just under 10 minutes left in the match, Jordan King’s left-footed shot secured the victory for the visitors.

TOFC demonstrated great possession and teamwork as they battled against Coquitlam Metro-Ford SC on Sunday at Towne City Park in Coquitlam.  The back line for TOFC flexed their defensive muscle, quickly shutting down any chances Coquitlam had before they developed.

TOFC’s impenetrable defence also helped to turn the ball up the pitch and created chances on the counter attack, but were unable to break the deadlock. After a back and forth second half, the game saw it’s only goal with 10 minutes left to play.

TOFC defender Lauren Schmidt closed down a Coquitlam forward and turned the ball up field to Macalle White, who distributed the ball wide to mid-fielder Keira Howaniec.

Howaniec made a run down the left wing and crossed the ball into the path of Salmon Arm’s King, who blasted the ball into the back of the net with a left-footed, first-touch shot.

This proved to be the game winner as TOFC handed Coquitlam Metro-Ford SC their first loss of the season with a final score of 1-0.

The win was TOFCs third in a row and they now find themselves in third place with a 3-1-1 record.

TOFC plays next on Sunday, April 17 at 1 p.m. at the Mission Sports Fields in Kelowna.
