Thompson Okanagan FC’s Under 13 Girls (2003 born) have won the highest level championship in British Columbia youth soccer.
By defeating Coastal FC U13 Girls 3-1 on Sunday at the Apple Bowl in Kelowna, the TOFC girls became the B.C. Soccer Provincial Premier Cup Champions.
Vernon’s Ava Wright and Ava McLennan are with the history-making squad which was the first from the Interior to play in a Premier Cup final.
Game MVP Abigail Taneda (West Kelowna) scored twice for the home side and Kate Cartier (Kelowna) added another, set up beautifully by Wright and Chloe Alex of Penticton.
TOFC was solid in defence most of the afternoon, as center backs Chloe Dalgarno (Kelowna) and Jaidyn McGrath (West Kelowna) took care of Coastal’s strikers and goalkeeper Liesl Milovick (Kamloops) cleaned up anything that managed to get through.
Vernon’s Wright and McLennan played very well in the TOFC Premier Cup victory.
Taneda was named MVP.
Thompson Okanagan FC plays in the B.C. Soccer Premier League (BCSPL), which is the highest level of youth soccer in BC. It is supported by both BC Soccer and the Vancouver Whitecaps as the primary pathway for higher level players.
