It was a better effort, but the same result for the Trinity Western Spartans women’s volleyball team.
The Spartans, ranked number two in the country to start the season, dropped two matches to the top-ranked UBC Thunderbirds.
The T-Birds won 3-0 (25-23,25-11,25-22) on Oct. 25 at the Langley Events Centre and then took the rematch 3-1 (25-19,23-25,25-22,25-19) at UBC’s War Memorial Gymnasium the next night.
“I’m proud of how the girls responded after what happened yesterday,” said coach Ryan Hofer.
“We were looking for them to come out and improve in some very specific areas and I thought we did that tonight.
“We were looking for a win but unfortunately, that didn’t come our way, but there were aspects of our game which have now been revealed and we can work on.”
One of those aspects is preventing the other team from going on lengthy runs and another is their efficiency, the coach said.
Alicia Perrin and Royal Richardson led the Spartans on the second night with nine kills apiece while Chelsea Wand had nine digs.
In the first match, Sophie Carpentier led the team with nine kills while Perrin had eight. Katelyn Devaney had six blocks and Wand had 13 digs.
The Spartans are on the road this weekend in Regina for a pair of matches.
