Torched in Chase

100 Mile House Wranglers stumble in back-to-back games against division rival

100 Mile House Wranglers goalie Zane Steeves was put to work in Chase as the local Kootenay International Junior Hockey League club fell for a second time to the Heat in as many nights.

The Heat fired 57 shots at Steeves in the 6-2 win on Dec. 30.

The Wranglers are in second place and now lead the Heat by two points in the Doug Birks Division.

Alex Meeker, from Kolby Page and Alex Hanson, scored to make it 5-1 in the third period. Meeker, from Brady Ward and Nick McCabe, scored with under a minute left for the 6-2 finish.

Coach Dale Hladun wasn’t pleased with the team’s focus following the 3-2 loss to Chase on Dec. 29.

The Wranglers have been flat even before the Christmas break started, and the boys need to be more focused and disciplined if they want to “run with the big dogs” in the KIJHL, Hladun says.

“We had a chance to get into first place with a couple of wins here and now all of a sudden the opponent that’s chasing us is within striking distance.”

100 Mile House hosts the Revelstoke Grizzlies on Jan. 2 and the Sicamous Eagles on Jan. 3.
