One member of Toshido Mixed Martial Arts of Kelowna successfully defended his title and another earned a shot at a title belt as local fighters performed well at a recent MMA event hosted by Battlefield Fight League (BFL) in Pencticton.
Three Toshido members competed at the BFL Fight Night 24 last weekend at the Penticton Convention Centre.
Current BFL Welterweight Champion Matt Dwyer of Tohido successfully defended his title against Olympic Wrestler Colin Daynes, winning by way of first round TKO. After defending all of Daynes’ takedown attempts, Dwyer went in for the finish throwing a barrage of punches and forcing the referee to stop the bout at 4:43 of the first round.
Youngster Joe Pirrotta, at just age 18-years-old, defeated his opponent Craig Mclean of the Lower Mainland by a unanimous decision. The winner of the bout was guaranteed a bout for the the 135 pound BFL title. Pirrotta will be fighting for the BFL Bantamweight Championship belt in September.
Chris Day increased his perfect pro record to 2-0 with a quick choke submission victory over Manitoba fighter Desmond Johnson at just 1:40 of the first round to round-out the local results.
