Semiahmoo Secondary track-and-field star Julia Greer will be lacing up her running shoes on Vancouver Island this fall, after committing to join the University of Victoria Vikes.
The Grade 12 student will run the 800-metre and 1,500-m distances with the Vikes, as well as relay events – races in which she has had plenty of success at the high-school level.
“I am extremely excited to be part of such a great running program and team,” Greer said in a news release.
“Being accepted into the UVic School of Business (as well as competing) for the Vikes is the best of both worlds, and September can’t come soon enough.”
Greer, 17, has won three consecutive gold medals in the 1,500-m at BC Athletics Track and Field Championships, and last fall at BC High School Cross-Country Championships helped Semiahmoo to an overall bronze-medal finish.
As a junior in 2013, Greer also won silver medals in the 800- and 1,500-m races at high school track-and-field provincial championships.
