The high-school basketball season has only just begun, but a pair of South Surrey teams have leapt into the action with two feet – already travelling stateside to get a taste of some top competition.
Last week, Semiahmoo Secondary’s senior boys squad travelled south to Washington and Oregon, first stopping in Bellingham to play Squalicum High School – a game that the Totems narrowly lost, 68-64. From there, the squad headed further down the coast to Oregon, where they defeated Astoria High School 71-60.
Next on the agenda was a game in Portland against Mountain View High School – which the Oregonians won by three – while a second game in the Portland area was cancelled.
Off the court, the team was busy, too – visiting Cannon Beach, the Tillamook Cheese Factory, Voodoo Donuts and taking in a Portland Trailblazers NBA game.
Meanwhile, Earl Marriott Secondary’s senior girls teams has moved to warmer climes this week, and is currently on a hoops tour of Hawaii.
The Mariners touched down in The Ahola State Dec. 7 and Tuesday was in Oahu to tip off against a local high-school squad.
