The Ridge Meadows Minor Softball Association was well-represented at the Mite District Championships in Port Moody last weekend, as the Ridge Meadows Legion 88 Heat beat the Ridge Meadows Thunder in the tournament final.
In all, the local softball association had three teams finish in the top five at the district championships, with the Ridge Meadows Renegades finishing fifth.
The Legion 88 Heat finished first in the round-robin portion of the tournament, defeating fourth-place Port Coquitlam to advance to the finals.
The Thunder finished in third in the round robin before beating second-place Coquitlam by one run to advance.
Playing for the Legion 88 Heat were Isabella Gagnon, Ciarra Van Dop, Lily Amery, Hanna Belsey, Mikaela Dykeman, Hayley McGuire, Elina Adkins-Almond, Hannah Chapman, Matilda Davies, and Delaney Fotheringhame.
Playing for the the Thunder were Gabrielle Fafard, Riley Morrison, Paris Swindells, Jamie Mead, Brynn Morgan, Jaden Oglivie, Kyla Weston, Hayley Garrett, Cara Ollmann, Julia Kindred, and Lexi Haidon.
The Ridge Meadows Romper Bombers U-12 squirt softball team also made it atop the podium last weekend as they beat the Richmond Lightning Bolts 16-10 to win the Ladner Girls’ Squirt Softball Tournament.
The Romper Bombers beat the Delta Purple Thunder 15-2 to advance to the final.
Strong pitching by Madison Schmidt and Hannah Trampleasure, and solid defensive play by Sidney Crowe and Molly Perler helped the Romper Bombers to a 5-1 record at the tournament.
Also playing for the team was Kennedy Badminton, Erin Bennett, Cailin McDonald, Hannah Hamilton, Emily Duchak, Halle Mitchell, Chloe Brack, Elyssa Sampson, and Cami Geniesse.
