The G.P. Vanier Towhees put the Frank Hurt Hornets into a world of pain in their Oct. 19 B.C. High School Tier 2 Varsity football game.
Vanier was down 22-6 at the half but mounted an astounding 38-30 victory in what had to be one of the best games played at Bill Moore Memorial Park in many years. Mike Roller (#34) bowled over the visitor’s defence running for an amazing 213 yards while Cody Fletcher (#32) ran through the Hornets’ D like a bowling ball through the pins.
Roller and Fletcher ended up scoring three TDS each. This was truly a ground game with quarterback Liam Pidsosny (#4) going to the air only twice with no completions. Roller and Clayton Guille (#66) each had one sack. Roller continued to dominate defensively with 10 tackles, Guille had a huge 12 tackles followed by Jimmy Brazier with eight solid take downs and Fletcher with seven. Up-and-comer Joey Osadiuk ended the night with seven hits to stop the advancing Hurt offence. “Huge credit for this victory goes to the strong offensive line ensuring holes for the RBs to get through,” a Towhees’ spokesperson said. “Truly this game had all the elements of a playoff battle in the regular season.”
Having knocked down Hurt, the Towhees are now tied for second place with Hornets. Vanier has a bye this week and returns to action Nov. 3 at Howe Sound.
