Town hosting second Sport for Life

The new school year is just around the corner, and so are all the fall and winter activities to keep the kids busy.

“With the fall season upon us, many of our local recreation groups are in the midst of getting fired up for another season of active fun,” said Jordan Petrovics, manager of recreation services for the Town of Golden.

The Recreation Department has a couple exciting events planned to help families and recreation groups get back into the swing of things.

The first will be a second Sport for Life presentation at the Golden Civic Centre on Sept. 11. The first Sport for Life event in the spring, featuring speaker Dave Ellis, attracted 56 people representing 32 different sports and service clubs in town.

“Two great key note speakers are lined up to deliver some interesting facts about the power of positive coaching and injury prevention,” said Petrovics. “The format of the event will be similar to the spring Sport for Life event, providing all the participants the chance to socialize and get some great information that can be applied to each group’s specific goals.”

The doors will open at 6 p.m., with the presentation beginning at 7 p.m.

On the following evening, Sept. 12, the Recreation Department will be hosting their annual Community Connections Evening.

Every year the department hosts the event to give all the recreation groups in town the opportunity to gain some exposure, and attract new participants. It also lets families see what the town has to offer.

“All organizations are welcome to attend, and all members of the public are encouraged to come out and explore what each group is all about,” said Petrovics.

The event goes from 6 to 8 p.m., and will include demonstrations from some of the recreation groups.

Any group who would like to exhibit (it is free to do so), is asked to pre-register. More information about registration is available at golden.ca (look under the public notices on the home page), or at 250-344-2281 ext. 225.
