Track and field athletes earn medals at club provincials

Contingent from Nanaimo club faces well at B.C. Athletics Jamboree in Coquitlam.

A Nanaimo Track and Field Club member launched the hammer far enough for a B.C. championship.

Ethan Katzberg, 15, won the hammer throw with a 56.38-metre performance last weekend at the B.C. Athletics Jamboree in Coquitlam. The event is the provincial club championship for athletes 14 and up.

Also at the event, Jessica Katzberg took silver in her division in the hammer throw.

Ben Toth and Steen Rasmussen were second and third, respectively, in the decathon.

Olivia Lundman was second in the 1,500m race walk and third in pole vault, Madison Paugh earned bronze in triple jump and pentathlon and Marina Andersen was third in the 5,000m race walk.

Former Nanaimo Track and Field Club members also fared well as Jason Clare won gold in junior men’s pole vault and Amy Morris raced to silver in the junior women’s 5,000m.
