The Tri-Port Midget Wild travelled down island for a very important game against Oceanside Icebreakers, one that would decide who the top team in Vancouver Island Amateur Hockey Association’s female midget division is.
The game was incredibly close over all three periods, with the Wild holding a tight 1-0 lead thanks to forward Kaitlyn Wilson finding the back of the net in the first.
With time running out in the third, the Icebreakers pulled their goalie “and they scored with less than a minute to go,” said Tri-Port Female Minor Hockey Coordinator Lisa Brown, who added that goaltender Avary Miller “played phenomenal. It was a cluster of players in front of the net and she was screened.”
When the final buzzer went, the game ended in a 1-1 tie.
The Wild are currently sitting in second place in their division, with an excellent 4-1-3 record, trailing the Icebreakers by only two points.
The Wild will be back in action Feb. 9 at the Don Cruickshank Memorial Arena in Port Hardy against the Juan De Fuca Grizzlies, as they continue their path towards earning another league banner.
