Triangle Bullets hit bullseye at Greater Victoria Mosquito championships

Some players off West Shore team to go on to play for elite squad

The Triangle Bullets soared to the top at the Greater Victoria Baseball Association’s city Mosquito division (age 9-10) tournament.

The team, with eight first-year and four second-year players on the roster, were crowned city champions on June 21, defeating the Carnarvon Mustangs 12-8 in the final at the Juan de Fuca field.

Justin Robinson, Joel Mavretic, Carson Hamilton and Jordan Bond each pitched a scoreless inning to help the Bullets hold off the Mustangs, who led 4-3 after the first inning.

“That’s pretty good for that age group,” said Triangle head coach Ward Bond.

“They are an awesome bunch of players.”

After winning the city championships the baseball season ended for most of the players.

Jordan Bond, 10, was selected to play for the Mosquito AAA Tier 1 team. Cole Belton, Jaden Cull and Kaleb Nantes, also from Triangle Athletic Association, also made the cut for the elite team.

The players tried out alongside Mosquito players from across Greater Victoria to earn a spot on the 12-player roster.

Over the summer the team competes against teams from across B.C. and Washington State.

The Tier 1 team is coached by Ward Bond, Glenn Brown and Dave Berg.
