Hours before Halloween, and the candy that comes with it, North Saanich Middle School students participated in a triathlon.
Students have been participating in the annual event for more than 32 years and athletic director Nadine Stofer said swimming, biking and running is a good way to remind students to stay healthy despite the temptation of treats.

“They have just a little bit of a gluttonous consumption over the next couple of days so we want them to be healthy,” she said.
Stofer explained that some 400 students participate over the two-day event. Students swam at Panorama Recreation Centre on Wednesday and did the bike/run portion on Thursday. If students are unable to do the physical activities, they help marshal their classmates along the course.
Coco Gunn, a Grade 7 student, said it was a great way to use up some Halloween excitement.
“It was quite tiring, but it was worth it,” said Gunn.
