Two Midget box lacrosse players from Courtenay are off to the 2016 BC Summer Games in Abbotsford.
Colby Black and Andre Sutter, both from the Comox Valley Wild Box Lacrosse Association and the two most northern members of the Zone 6 team this year, are two of the 19-member team who competed and won spots to represent Zone 6 (Vancouver Island-Central Coast).
They have one more big opportunity to train prior to the Summer Games when they compete at the Provincial championships in Coquitlam with their local Comox Valley Wild club this weekend. The Wild claimed the Island banner last weekend when they defeated Oceanside.
Their local box lacrosse coach Peter Parke is also coaching this Summer Games team and is working with the Team BC box lacrosse squad this summer.
Zone 6 box lacrosse assistant coaches at the July 21-24 Games are Les Black and Warren Dickie, also of Courtenay.
“Good talent is coming from the north end of the Island!” a Wild spokesperson noted.
