At least two RiverMonsters will be heading to the BC Summer Swimming Provincials this weekend in Surrey, after nine club members took part in the Fraser Valley regionals, Aug. 5 and 6.
Coach Mike Freimark said, “What a weekend! Very intense. The RiverMonsters did extremely well and I am very proud of all the swimmers that swam, representing our club.”
Freimark’s wife and club presdident, Catherine said the provincial championships begin Friday. Eli Reist will be competing in two events and has been selected for the Div. 1, 200-metre medley relay Fraser Valley. Violette Freimark will be competing in four events and was selected to the Div. 2 girls 200-metre medley relay.
“Relay selections are made by the regional coach and are an honour for the swimmers to be chosen,” said Catherine.
“Violette, had an exceptional weekend finishing first in all but her 50 Fly event besting all her time by a large margin,” said her father, coach Mike.
“Eli Reist, was the surprise to his coaches as well to many of his competitors,” he added. “He finished in the top three for all his events, qualifying him for provincials in free and back.
“Avery Loring continued her upward swing on setting Personal Best Times and finishing in the top 8 for her division. With a drastic push on her fly, she qualified as an alternate for provincials.”
“Danika Hope finished the year off strong, placing in the top 8 for her division as well — and qualifying her as an alternate as well,” said the coach.
