Two ties for UFV soccer women

The University of the Fraser Valley women’s soccer team posted a pair of draws on a weekend road trip to Alberta.

The Cascades opened the journey with a 1-1 tie against the Calgary Dinos on Saturday. Danika Snook scored off a pass from Dariann Kloot just before halftime, but the Dinos equalized in the first minute of the second half.

On Sunday, Ellen Kuyer’s goal in the 65th minute lifted the UFV women to a 1-1 draw with the Lethbridge Pronghorns. Goalie Chantelle Biagioni was outstanding for the Cascades, making 10 saves as the UFV women ran their regular season record to 2-2-2.

It was a frustrating weekend for the UFV soccer men, as they saw their losing streak stretch to five games after falling to Calgary (1-0) and Lethbridge (3-0).

Saturday’s defeat was particularly heartbreaking, as the Cascades dominated the game, only to lose when Calgary’s Ben Cole scored in the 87th minute. The UFV men now sit at 1-5 on the season.

• The Cascades women host the same opponents this weekend – Lethbridge on Saturday, and Calgary on Sunday. Both games begin at 12 p.m. at Bateman Park.

The UFV men have a home-and-home set with the UVic Vikes, beginning with a date at Bateman Park on Saturday at 2:15 p.m.
