The old box down at Parksville Community Park was a busy place this weekend as Oceanside Minor Lacrosse hosted the 2012 Panago Tyke Tournament.

The tournament was a big hit with the 12 out of town teams entered. Westshore (Victoria) sent six teams, and Saanich, Nanaimo three each with Courtenay and Campbell River also represented.

Oceanside did not field a team at this age group this year, but the passion of the game was front and center. On Sunday when The News stopped by Westshore clipped Saanich 9-8 in the dying minutes of a wide-open, fiercely contested game.

“You see that,” one fan chuckled midway through the final stanza, pointing in the direction of the team benches. “That coach is quiet now because he’s so hoarse from screaming.”
