The Canadian women’s national field hockey team faced a tough opponent with the Olympic-bound Team U.S.A. for four matches in four days earlier this week.
The Americans are currently ranked 10th in the world and won all four games.
Canada has shifted its focus from London 2012, which it did not qualify for, and is now campaigning for Rio de Janeiro 2016.
“I like what I’m seeing out here,” says Alan Brahmst, Director of National Teams. “We’re introducing a new style of play and it’s coming through in this series – our young Canadian team is holding their own.”
Canada’s junior women’s team travels to Argentina this week for a series of test matches against Chile and Argentina (May 24 to June 3), including Oak Bay’s Maddie Secco.
Canada’s roster against the U.S.A. carried many young players. Eleven of them are in fact part of the junior squad going to Argentina.
