The Cariboo Youth Soccer League (CYSL) wrapped up on Sunday, June 26 with the Williams Lake U13 girls winning the U14 division.
Williams Lake faced the previously unbeaten U14 girls from Quesnel in a two-game total goal game final Sunday in Quesnel.
In game one Williams Lake got off to a fast start with two first half goals from Katelynn Hill and Jordan Burtini.
Quesnel came out strong in the second half, dominating the play and creating lots of scoring chances.
Williams Lake’s defense bent but didn’t break and goalie Brityn Hinsche played outstanding stopping every shot she faced including two penalty shots to preserve the 2-0 win for Williams Lake.
After a short break the two teams faced off again still weary from the first game and the hot weather.
Williams Lake scored first once again with Pyper Alexander splitting the defense and burying the ball in the corner of the net.
Once again the Williams Lake defense held up only allowing one goal for a 1-1 tie in the second game.
After the end of the two games, Williams Lake took home the gold medal winning 3-1 on aggregate between the two games.
The Williams Lake U13 girl’s next tournament will be in Penticton July 7-11 for the soccer provincials.
