After two games the Pinnacles FC under 15 boys team has a win and draw in the Thompson Okanagan Youth Soccer League.
A scoreless draw on April 10 against Kamloops followed a 5-0 win.
PFC coach Manuel Borba said the tie was a good result against one of their most competitive opponents. This weekend they host Kelowna United at Kings Park 3.
Throughout the season Borba said the big thing he wants to see is for the players to keep improving and developing. He is being assisted by Brazilian coach Cesar Cepi, who will coach the Penticton Pinnacles men’s team this season, and they are modifying how they play. Borba said they will add a Brazilian influence to their style of Excelsior Rotterdam.
“He’s got players he wants to see in different positions. It’s a bit of a change up for the boys,” said Borba. “It’s a new voice for them. They have had me for four years. Cesar has been working with them for six months.”
They are seeing more mobility on the field and Borba likes the adjustments the players are making, including defending well. Against Kamloops they received strong goalkeeping from Ryan Peters and the team created chances hitting a few posts as well.
“It was an exciting game, an even game,” said Borba. “Last year we always played them to one goal games. It’s the one team in the Okanagan that really matches up well against us. It’s good for the boys to have that kind of competition again.”
The PFC U18 boys team top the TOYSL standings with a 2-0 record, while PFC J is 2-0 in the U14 division and PFC Y is winless after two games.
In the girls side, the PFC U14 team is looking for its first win heading into week three, while the U15 team has a win and a loss. In U18, PFC is 2-0, while the U17 squad lost the only game they have played so far.
