The U18 Riptide girls soccer team has capped an undefeated season with a B.C. championship. The squad defeated the West Vancouver Rangers 1-0 in the gold medal match of the A-Cup provincials, Sunday in Richmond.
It was the second meeting between the two teams during the July 5-8 tournament. The Riptide had beaten the Rangers 3-2 in the round-robin. They also had 1-0 wins over Prince George and Port Coquitlam.
“This has been an extraordinary season with a diverse group of young ladies that all have potential for bright futures,” manager Johanne Moreau said.
Five of the players have earned athletic scholarships to Canadian and American universities.
Along with the A-Cup, the U18s won the Vancouver Island Premier League (VIPL) championship and the U18 Coastal Cup.
The U15 and U16 Riptide girls also competed at the A-Cup. Both teams placed third. The U15s beat Kelowna 7-2 in the bronze medal match. The U16s beat Burnaby 4-1 for third place, and earned the fair play award for their age group.
