Eric Williams has earned a spot on the Canada West all-rookie team.
The first-year goaltender for the UBC Thunderbirds was fifth in the league with a 2.27 goals against average and third in save percentage (.923). Both numbers were tops among all rookies. He had one shutout.
In the playoffs, Williams’ numbers improved to a 2.06 GAA and a .940 save percentage in five games as UBC beat Manitoba two games to one before losing 2-0 to Alberta. Both series were best-of-five.
Williams, who attended Walnut Grove Secondary and played in the Western Hockey League, was 7-5-2-0 for the Thunderbirds. He played in half of UBC’s games.
The 21-year-old played in 199 WHL games with Prince Albert and Spokane.
In his final season in 2013/14, Williams was 33-19-4 with a 2.67 goals against average and a .906 save percentage, all of which were career highs.
