Sasa Plavsic of the University of the Fraser Valley men’s soccer team has been selected to participate in the 2013 USL PRO Combine in Bradenton, Fla.
The event runs Jan. 24-27 at the world-class IMG Academy, and provides an opportunity for elite players to showcase their talents for both domestic and international scouts and professional coaches. To date, more than 150 participants (including 10 from 2012) have gone on to sign professional contracts with USL, MLS and international squads since the debut of the combine in 2006.
Plavsic, a fourth-year midfielder from Coquitlam, has led UFV in scoring the past three seasons, totaling 20 goals and 10 assists, including an eight-goal campaign this year as UFV posted its first .500 record (5-5-4) in its seven Canada West seasons.
“I want to thank the athletic department at UFV and all the heart they have put into making my experience here as a student athlete a positive one,” Plavsic stated in a press release. “I am privileged to have played under an experienced coach like Alan Errington. He has helped me develop as a player on and off the field. I hope I can give back to this soccer community that has given me so much over the past three years.”
“I am very happy for Sasa,” UFV Cascades head soccer coach Alan Errington said. “He graduates with class this year and to be recognized as one of the top 102 amateurs in North America for a look in the combine, speaks volume about his talent.”
