Comox Valley United solidified their hold on second place in Div. 2 of the Vancouver Island Soccer League with a convincing 4-0 win over Cowichan United, Sunday at Valley View.
The teams were tied for second entering the game, but the local side left no doubt as to which was the better team on this day. Comox Valley controlled most of the play, with all goals coming in the second half.
Gorkhan Avcil’s hat trick brought his total to six goals on the season, good enough for fourth place in Div. 2 scoring. Darren Bergh added the other tally, giving him three for the year. Mack Zirkl recorded his division-leading fifth shutout.
Comox Valley is now 5-1-3 while Cowichan falls to 5-5-0. United is home again this Sunday when they host fifth-place Lakehill United (3-5-2) in a 2:15 p.m. start at Valley View.
