UPDATE: More records fall in Ultraman Canada

Ultraman Canada has more records set on final day in Summerland

More records have been set in the Ultraman Canada Triathlon.

The Ultraman Canada Twitter account posted four hours ago that there is a new record holder in the men’s 50-55 age group as well as a new women’s record holder. Also, double amputee Andre Kajlich finished two hours ago, while the last male just crossed the finish line.

Yvonne Timewell has done it again.

The 46-year-old Kamloops native has set another bike record on the Ultraman Canada triathlon course. This time she completed the 273.5-kilometre bike distance in nine hours, three minutes and 38 seconds on day 2, besting Amber Montforte’s 2009 mark of 9:14:22 by just under 11 minutes. Timewell’s performance bumped her to third overall at 17:06:58. On day 1, Timewell broke Consuela Lively’s 2012 record of 4:56:55 by 12:50.

Kevin Willis, 54, has maintained his lead by clocking in at 8:38 for a total time of 15:58:49. Willis’ time was not the fastest of the day, however. Jan Svendsen, 44, clocked in at 8:28:57, which helped bump him from third to second overall in the standings with a time of 16:28:41. Barry Plaga rounds out the top three males in 17:17:36.

Amy Van Tassel, 38, remains second among females as she finished in 9:14:50 for a total time of 17:33:38 and Stacia Watson, 36, is third among females after finishing in 9:21:03 for a total time of 17:52:03.

Andre Kajlich, the events first wheelchair athlete who is a double amputee, sits 10th with a total time of 18:40:27. The 25-year-old completed the bike section in 9:29:50.

Heading into Day 3, the field will be reduced from 29 to 27 triathletes after Nick Mallett, 51, and Sabrina Haun, 26, did not finish.

Day 3 (Aug 4) completes the event with an 84.4-km run from Princeton to Summerland along the Old Princeton Summerland Road. The athletes finish at Memorial Park in Summerland.

Local residents are invited to watch with athletes arriving at Summerland’s Memorial Park at approximately 1:30 p.m.

Yvonne Timewell made her mark on Day 1 of Ultraman Canada setting a new record on her bike, finishing the 144.8-kilometre distance in four hours, 44 minutes and five seconds.

The 46-year-old is the top female finishing the 10-km swim and bike course in 8:03:20. She is fourth overall behind leader Kevin Willis, who clocked in at 7:20:49. In second is Barry Plaga at 7:42:04 and third is Jan Svendsen finishing in 7:59:44.

Rounding out the top three females are Amy Van Tassel clocking in at 8:18:48 and Stacia Watson at 8:31.

Day 2 (Aug 3) continues with competitors cycling a 274.2-km bike route from Penticton to Osoyoos. They return to OK Falls, then climb “The Wall” to Willowbrook and Twin Lakes on their way to Princeton where they complete an out and back section to Alison Lake to finish at the Princeton Arena.
