UVic hosts rugby semifinals

No. 2-seeded UVic Vikes men’s rugby team hosts the No. 3 Capilano RFC on Saturday

Following the excitement of the Women’s Rugby Sevens this past weekend at Westhills, the University of Victoria’s Wallace Field hosts one of the CDI Premier League semifinals this Saturday. No. 2-seeded UVic Vikes men’s rugby team hosts the No. 3 Capilano RFC with kick-off set for 2:45 p.m. at Wallace Field. For ticket pricing visit govikesgo.com/tickets.

Oak Bay’s Henderson Park-based Victoria Mariners Premier team hosts North Delta Blue Jays this Saturday and the Whalley Chiefs Sunday. Their games will start at 1 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. Sunday.

Across the UVic campus at Lambrick Park, the region’s other premier team, the Victoria Eagles swap days with the M’s, hosting Whalley Saturday and North Delta Sunday. The Eagles (5-3) on the season will come into the weekend series hoping for a sweep to keep them in the top of the league standings. Games on Saturday will be at noon and 2:30 p.m. while the following day’s games will start earlier, at 11 a.m. and 1:20 p.m.

Anyone wishing to help needy young players cover the costs of pursuing their baseball passion are urged to donate to the Roy Moretti Legacy Fund set up by the Victoria Eagles and the Moretti Family. Oak Bay High will host the Week 6 senior girls rugby games at Windsor Park May 1, hosting Esquimalt, Stelly’s and Spectrum. Games start at 3 p.m.

Four games will be played in the boys’ section of the high school senior circuit on April 30, including Glenlyon Norfolk School travelling to Reynolds and SMUS hosting Stelly’s.

The senior high school badminton season is winding down, but not before Oak Bay visits SMUS this coming Tuesday. League playoffs follow Thursday at a location still to be determined. On the AA high school tennis courts, SMUS faces GNS at Henderson Park Wednesday. Henderson will also host the AAA playoffs coming up May 11 and 12.

The Victoria Cougars Junior B hockey team spring camp runs this weekend, Friday to Sunday, for players interested making the move to junior hockey. For details, visit www.victoriacougars.com/.
