Valley Huskers face Regina Riot in final of Football Canada logo contest

Vote in the online poll to see the scarecrow named the best amateur football logo in the country

The Valley Huskers are one round of online voting away from being named the best amateur football logo in the entire country.

Chilliwack responded big time when the junior football squad asked for help in the semi-finals of a Football Canada social media contest. In a showdown with the Regina Thunder of the Prairie Football Conference, the Huskers’ spooky scarecrow trailed 56.8 to 43.2 per cent in voting when a Chilliwack Progress article went live Tuesday afternoon.

When the 24 hour voting window closed, the Huskers logo had staged a furious comeback to win by a .2 per cent margin, getting 15 more votes than their rivals.

That sets up an epic final where the scarecrow takes on the logo of the Regina Riot, a team in the Western Women’s Canadian Football League.

As of 3 p.m. Thursday afternoon, with 19 hours left to vote, 111 ballots had been cast in the online poll and the Huskers trailed 55 to 45 per cent.

On their way to the final, the Huskers logo vanquished the logo of the U-Sports McGill Redbirds in round one, capturing 69 per cent of the online vote. In round two it whomped a BC Football Conference rival, earning 67 per cent of the vote to eliminate the Kamloops Broncos. It was a tighter win in the quarter-final round, with the Huskers logo getting 53 per cent to knock out the U-Sports Acadia Axemen.

To vote online, check out the poll on the Football Canada twitter page or find the contest on Instagram.
