This weekend the five B.C. female hockey AAA teams battle each other in Vancouver. The Vancouver Island Seals face the Northern Capitals of Prince George and the Greater Vancouver Comets in their season debut. During their previous season play, the Seals only lost one game against the Capitals, and this past month when they met them in tournament play, the Seals came away with a 4-2 victory. The Seals should then be the odds-on favorite to come out on top, however, they cannot be overconfident as they trailed for most of the first and second period in their previous game.

The Seals will also meet the powerhouse Greater Vancouver Comets this weekend. As one of the teams that competed with the Comets last year, the Seals hope to beat them this season and advance to the ESSO cup. The Comets are led by Jennifer Gardiner who as a member of the Canadian National team is not unfamiliar to the Seals. She was part of the Vancouver Island Monarchs (Spring Team) this spring, at which time she was centred by the current Seals captain, Yannick Truter.
During an interview, Truter said that the Seals had the capacity to beat the Comets if their defense minimized the Vancouver offense, and if the Seals’ forwards finished on their chances.
The Seals having their last practice at Shawnigan Lake School on Thursday evening then travel to the mainland on Friday.
