Stretching his legs against junior runners from across the country, Vanderhoof’s Alexander Nemethy took a bronze medal home with Team BC this fall.
The snow-covered and mud-spotted Canadian National Cross-Country Running Championships took place in Kingston, Ontario, at one degree Celsius with 10-kilometre wind speed on Nov. 26.
In the junior men event, runners aged 18 and 19 years old raced a distance of eight kilometres.
Finishing behind second-place Quebec and first-place Ontario, B.C.’s team also includes Nickolas Colyn from Trinity Western University, Kieran Lumb and Sean Bergman from University of British Columbia, as well as Joshua Kozelj and Chet Goerzen from University of Victoria.
Nemethy, currently studying in UVic and competing in the junior national event for the second time, qualified by placing fourth during the provincial selection race in Nanaimo on Oct. 29.
