Vanderhoof’s Emma Floris achieved new personal best times at the 2016 Canadian Track & Field Championships this summer.
Took place in Edmonton from July 7 to 10, the national event also serves as the Rio Selection Trials for the upcoming summer Olympic Games.
Starting with the 200-metre qualifying race, Floris landed a spot in the semifinals with a personal best time of 25.82 seconds and is placed sixth out of 15 athletes — she was 0.54 seconds behind the first.
Another personal best time was reached at the 400-metre qualifying event, where she placed first with a time of 57.16 seconds. Her previous fastest time was 57.65 seconds.
Though her semi-final times weren’t quick enough for the final race, it was a learning experience to see and compete with athletes for the World U20 event, Marty Floris said.
