Vanderhoof wins gold at cross-country zone championship

Nechako Valley Secondary’s cross-country runners brought home a zone championship banner for the eighth year in a row.

Under cloudy skies with a temperature of 5 degrees Celsius in Quesnel, fifteen athletes from Vanderhoof raced against teams from Prince George, Dawson Creek, and Quesnel on Oct. 22.

Gold medals were won by the NVSS senior boys team, consisted of Matthew Ebert, Nolan McClearly, Alex Bruma, and Logan Sewell, as well as Lachlan Pedersen in the Grade 8 boys category and Payton Mueller in the Grade 8 girls category.

Matthew Ebert took home a bronze medal in the senior boys category, the junior girls team placed third, and the junior boys team placed fifth.

 

Nine students will be going to provincial championship this year:

Alexis Seely – Grade 9

Lachlan Pedersen – Grade 8

Matthew Ebert – Grade 12

Michael Lyybert – Grade 12

Logan Sewell – Grade 10

Alex Bruma – Grade 10

Nolan McClearly – Grade 9
