Vanier junior girls basketball team wins bronze at tourney

The junior girls basketball team at Vanier Secondary kicked off the season last weekend at the Junior Girls Victoria Tipoff Tournament.

The Towhees faced some strong South Island and Lower Mainland teams. Their hard work was rewarded with a third-place result, earning players a trophy and bronze medals.

Vanier has a solid junior girls team this year, led by coaches Peter Parke and John Elmes, as well as team captain Maddy Thran, and assistant captains Reese Douglas, Camryn Lewis and Selena Lyner. The coaches have focused on team building and skill development.

Vanier hosts a Christmas tournament Dec. 13-14, and a home game against Timberline Dec. 17.
