FOSTER DEWITT FINISHED with nine rebounds and eight points in Vanier's 79-73 win over Dover Bay.

The Vanier Towhees senior boys 4A basketball team hosted league rival Dover Bay Dolphins of Nanaimo in their first North Island League match-up of the season on Tuesday.

It was a high scoring affair, with Dover hitting 13-of-38 three-point shots. “Luckily, we shot 57 per cent  from the field and held our composure at the end of the game to hold off the feisty Dover boys,” said Vanier head coach Larry Street.

“A big part of our 79-73 win fwas out-rebounding the Nanaimo crew 46-24, and this was so important for us to control since the Dover team were such great long-range shooters,” Street added.

Leading the way for the Towhees in scoring was Joss Biggins with 29 points, and shooting 9-of-10 from the free throw line. Bryce Olsen came back from a first quarter injury to complete another double-double with 11 rebounds and 14 points.

Foster Dewitt was solid down the stretch, finishing with nine rebounds and eight points, while jumping Harry Li scored 14 points, shooting 70 per cent from the field.

” A great win for this up-and-coming team who are lots of fun to watch,” said Street.

Fans will get to watch the Towhees in action this week as they host their annual Invitational tournament. Play gets underway at 3 p.m. Thursday and continues through to the final at 8 p.m. on Saturday.
