In his first Olympics, Vernon’s Vasek Pospisil got the chance to play with a legend – 39-year-old Daniel Nestor, who is appearing in his last.
Both crashed out of the London Summer Games on Tuesday, losing 4-6, 7-6, 9-11 to Serbia’s Janko Tipsarevic and Nenad Zimonjic at Wimbledon’s All England Club. The loss eliminated the Canadians from the Olympics.
Two other Canadians fell in singles tennis on Tuesday – top-seeded Canadian Milos Roanic on the men’s side and Aleksandra Wozniak on the women’s – to end their medal bids, as well.

Pospisil and Nestor went down a set early to the Serbs, but fought back to tie before a bit of a marathon third set finished it off. According to CTV, Pospisil and Nestor went 0-for-5 on their break point opportunities, while Serbia’s pair went 2-for-2.
In their first Olympic match, in Round 1, Pospisil and Nestor beat Romania’s Adrian Ungur and Horatio Tecau, 6-3, 7-6 (11-9).
On Sunday, Pospisil was eliminated from London’s singles tournament, as well, losing to Spain’s David Ferrer in the first round and in his first-ever Olympic game. While Pospisil played hard to stay in the match, Ferrer won in two straight sets, 4-6, 4-6.
After the loss, Pospisil sent out the following message via Twitter:
Nestor retires from Olympic tennis as Canada’s most decorated international player. He won doubles gold in 2000 in Sydney, Australia, with partner Sebastien Lareau.
