The Penticton Vees took their eighth win in a row at home tonight against the Surrey Eagles.

The 4-3 victory was not easily won. Both teams were neck-and-neck, exchanging goals throughout the game.

For the Vees, it was a continuation of their winning streak. For the Eagles, it was the end. Going into tonight’s match, each team had won seven games in a row.

The end of the game came down to the wire, with the Vees battling to hold off Surrey in a penalty. In the end, a shot fired in by Surrey was blocked by the Vees and secured the win for the home team.

“The guys are saying the right things on the bench, they’re selling out at the end, a huge block by our captain there David Silye; makes a heck of a block at the end,” said Vees head coach Fred Harbinson.

“Jay O’Brien (came) through with a couple big goals too, so it was a real solid effort,” he added.

Vees’ Steve Holtz opened the scoring for the home team, his seventh of the season, bringing the score to 1-1 after the first. Carson Kosobud scored once and O’Brien scored twice in a three-goal second period to help the Vees towards their victory.

By the end of the second, Penticton led shots on goal 28-16. Neither team would score again in the final period.

So far this season the Vees have secured 39 wins and the Eagles have secured 22.

But the action isn’t over yet; the Vees have several home games upcoming this weekend, on Feb. 7 at 7:00 p.m. and Feb. 9 at 2:00 p.m.
