It’s now 13 straight wins for the Penticton Vees.
The Vees dispatched the Trail Smoke Eaters 6-2 at the South Okanagan Events Centre in front of 2,044 fans improving to 16-1 and remain perfect at home at 8-0-0.
“It’s awesome to win and keep this streak going,” said Vees co-captain Patrick Sexton, who returned from an upper body injury that kept him out of 12 games. “Outside the of the first seven or eight minutes, I thought we played a really good game.”
After the Smoke Eaters opened the scoring on a goal by Scott Davidson at 7:14, Vees co-captain Cody DePourcq evened things up when he redirected a Gabe Bast point shot on the power play. DePourcq would later get the game-winning goal with a shot that beat Adam Todd high four minutes into the second period.
“We did a good job of handling their pushes. Trail is a good team,” said Sexton. “I thought we did a good job of grinding it out in the D-zone.”
Also scoring for the Vees was Patrick Newell, Demico Hannoun and Riley Alferd with a pair. Newell led the Vees with three points.
“We wnat to push the pace every game. Our forwards are unbelievable like that,” said Sexton. “I know I don’t like practicing against them because they go hard there too. I couldn’t imagine playing against them. They do a great job of being aggressive and getting after the other teams D core.”
On the power play, the Vees went three-for-seven with DePourcq,Newell and Alferd scoring. Hunter Miska stopped 24 shots to earn the victory.
