Vees make all-star and rookie team

The recognition keeps coming for Penticton Vees defenceman Joey Laleggia.

First the BCHL names him the Interior Conference MVP and best defenceman, and today they announced he was selected to the Interior Conference all-star team, though no game was played.

Along with Laleggia (58 GP, 20 G, 62 A, 47 PIM), the Interior Conference team is made up of goalie Kiefer Smiley (47 GP, 23-22-2, 2.83 GAA, .915 save percentage)  of the Trail Smoke Eaters, Vernon Vipers defenceman Malcolm Lyles (

54 GP, 8 G, 22 A, 71 PIM), and forwards Mike Hammond (57 GP, 39 G, 54 A, 38 PIM Brett Hull Trophy winner) of the Salmon Arm SilverBacks, Alex Grieve (60 GP, 31 G, 47 A, 53 PIM) of the Westside Warriors and Scott Jacklin (51 GP, 23 G, 50 A, 35 PIM ) of the Smoke Eaters.

Making up the Coastal Conference are Powell River Kings goalie Michael Garteig (48 GP, 36-8-3, 1.69 GAA (BCHL record), .934 sv. %(BCHL record) BCHL Goaltending Award winner), Kings defenceman Justin Dasilva (54 GP, 11 G, 32 A, 81 PIM), Nanaimo Clippers defenceman Graeme McCormack (56 GP, 10 G, 31 A, 41 PIM), Kings forward Matt Garbowsky (56 GP, 44 G, 36 A, 56 PIM Coastal Conference Most Valuable Player), Surrey Eagles forward Brad McGowan (59 GP, 36 G, 53 A, 26 PIM)  and Kings forward Chad Niddery (56 GP, 28 G, 58 A, 70 PIM)  of Penticton.
