Vees shutout by Warriors on the road

The Penticton Vees couldn't solve new Warriors goalie Matthew Greenfield

The Penticton Vees fired 41 shots at Matthew Greenfield Friday and he turned aside every one in a 2-0 win for the West Kelowna Warriors.

The performance by the Lakeland, Florida product making his debut after being acquired from the USHL was described as “calm” by the Warriors blog, Battle Cries. The Vees outshot the Warriors 12-7 in the first period and 16-8 in the second at Royal LePage Place. Vees goalie Zachary Driscoll turned aside 15 shots through two periods. The Warriors weren’t able to solve Driscoll until the 17:55 mark of the third when Connor Sodergren fed Jonathan Desbiens. The Warriors then iced the game a minute later on an empty net tally by Scott Allen.

In the loss, Conway’s league-best 31-game point streak ended. It was the first game since opening night he failed to record at least a point. Friday was the Vees first shutout loss in 41 regular season games dating back to last season against Alberni Valley. The last time the Vees lost in West Kelowna, it was also by shutout, 4-0 on Dec. 21st, 2013.

The Vees went zero-for-five on the power-play and their penalty-kill was perfect at four-for-four.

The Vees (30-4-1-0) and Warriors (20-13-0-2) meet again, this time at the South Okanagan Events Centre tonight at 6 p.m.
