The Penticton Vees added another notch to the win column, coming out on top over the Trail Smoke Eaters on Nov. 30.
Eric Linell put the Vees on the board in the first when he intercepted a deflected shot by Jack Lagerstrom. His backhander went past Adam Marcoux at 9:37.
Ryan Sandelin followed with a goal four minutes later, quick on the rebound of James Miller’s wrist shot on a power play. This left Penticton with a 2-0 lead heading into the second.

Despite a strong start to the period by the Smoke Eaters, the Vees extended their lead with the efforts of David Silye, who skated into the Trail zone and fired off a wrist shot over Marcoux’s blocker.
Four minutes later Trail got on the board thanks to Owen Ozar, who tipped in a pass from Trevor Zins, beating Jack LaFontaine on his blocker side. The Vees responded with a slap shot from the slot by Mason Snell, earning his second goal of the season.
The Vees opened themselves to a point when LaFontaine sprinted to the bench as a penalty was called, assuming it was against Trail. This left Penticton’s net empty, allowing Chase Stevenson to score.
Andre Ghantous caught a breakaway thanks to a long pass by Lagerstrom, sliding the puck past Marcoux with 2:44 remaining. With 11 seconds remaining, the Vees were given a powerplay as Carter Jones was ejected from the game for a checking from behind call against Cassidy Bowes.
Thirty seconds into the third, Trail’s Mack Byers took a feed from below the goal line and beat LaFontaine on his glove side. Quick to respond, Bowes caught Marcoux looking the wrong way while pulling the puck out from behind the net, sliding it in with just one second remaining on the power play.
The game sitting 6-3 for the Vees, Sandelin made his second goal of the night from the rebound of Miller’s wrist shot that was wide of the net. This marked his 20th goal of the season.
Trail brought in 16-year-old Logan Terness to finish out the game, stopping all 15 shots he faced in his home game debut. A late goal for the Smoke Eaters brought the final to 7-4 for the Vees.

The two teams are set to rematch tonight at the South Okanagan Event Centre at 6 p.m. This will mark the end of Penticton’s 12-games-in-25-days stretch.
