Vees unable to solve Silverbacks netminder in loss

Penticton Vees fire plenty of shots in loss to Salmon Arm

The Penticton Vees outdid the Salmon Arm Silverbacks in one statistical category, but not where it counted most.

The Vees outshot the Silverbacks 35-20, but could not solve goalie Angus Redmond in Salmon Arm’s Shaw Centre during a 3-0 loss.

Taro Hirose potted the only goal the home team would need at 6:04 of the first period. Phil Middleton then gave the Silverbacks a 2-0 cushion. Ross Heidt scored the third goal into an empty net.

Vees goalie Hunter Miska finished with 18 saves.

With the loss, the Vees are now 29-6-2-1, while the Silverbacks are 15-13-3-5 and fighting for the final playoff spot in the Interior Division currently occupied by Merritt.

The Vees’ next home game is Jan. 7 when they host the Coquitlam Express at 7 p.m.
