A strong second period for the Penticton Vees led to a 4-2 win over the Cowichan Valley Capitals on Sept. 14 in Duncan.

Although the game started with a scoreless first period, the Vees were ahead in shots 11-4. Just 26 seconds into the second period, Drew Elser scored the Vees first goal with a slap shot into the top corner over the glove of Jack Grant.

The team’s next goal came at 8:39 in the second period during their fourth power play of the game. Ryan Sandelin was able to sneak a shot under Grant’s glove, scoring his first goal of the year and making the game 2-0 for the Vees.

Preston Brodziak would put the Capitals on the board just minutes later thanks to a breakway by Jordan Robert.

From the 15:51 mark of the second period, both teams combined would rack up 28 penalty minutes and five misconducts. Near the end of the period, James Miller banked the puck off of Elser’s leg to score the Vees’ third goal.

Two minutes into the third period, David Silye would make his first goal as a Vee, using a rebound from Sandelin. With 11:31 remaining, the Capitals’ head coach, Mike Vandekamp, was ejected from the game.

The Capitals scored their last goal of the night with 1:45 left when Olivier Gauthier deflected Dimitri Mikrogiannakis’s one timer.

The Vees face off against the Victoria Grizzlies at 7:00 p.m. on Sept. 15 to finish up their two-game roadtrip.
